Step away from the capital and enter the heart of the Bosnian Kingdom - two former capital cities, a waterfall right in a city centre, and fairytale watermills on a mountain lake.
A journey through kingdoms and cascades. This tour takes you through the lush, green landscapes of Central Bosnia, visiting two former capital cities steeped in Ottoman and medieval history - finishing beside a mountain lake and a cluster of watermills that look straight out of a fantasy novel.
The Itinerary
Once the capital of the Ottoman governors (Viziers) of Bosnia, Travnik is a city that feels like a living time capsule. The medieval fortress crowns the hillside above a town of minarets, wooden houses, and rushing mountain streams. This is also the birthplace of the Nobel Prize-winning novelist Ivo Andrić.
Witness one of the only waterfalls in the world located right in a city centre. The 22-meter Pliva Waterfall marks the dramatic confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas rivers - a thundering spectacle surrounded by medieval walls and the ruins of the Bosnian Kingdom's last capital.
Just minutes from Jajce, the serene Pliva Lakes are home to one of the most photographed scenes in Bosnia - the Mlinčići, a cluster of 20 small wooden watermills dating back to the Ottoman era. These tiny mills on stilts over the flowing water look like something from a fantasy novel.
